Æther & Iron Artist Profile: Mika Tanagi

A Quick Aside

The exceptionally talented: Mika Tanagi

Seismic Squirrel has been working hard to build a team of experts who know their craft like the back of their hand. To help ya'll get to know them better, we had them answer some fun questions!

The character artist for Aether and Iron that we' are both extremely lucky and proud to work with is Mika Tanagi. When we first took a look at her portfolio, her work stood out immediately as what we needed on the team. Her character design and technical skill were out of this world and we've only been continually impressed and wowed by the characters she has created with extreme care and skill.

The Questions

So, Who are You?

"I'm a digital illustrator fresh in the gaming industry with a couple years of experience working with an animation studio. Zelda: Ocarina of Time was my first game when I was a kid and have never lost my love for video games all these years since then. Other than drawing, it is all I like to do in my free time. I could be an addict at this point. Maybe."

Favorite B-Movie?

"I enjoy revisiting The Dark Crystal. It's a fantastic movie with great sets and puppet work and I definitely picked up a few quotes to use."

If you could visit the swim park for a day with one person from history, who would it be and why?

"Katsushika Hokusai. Except less swimming and more sitting in the shade doing some life drawings together."

What is the smallest "pet peeve" that you have?

"I can't stand it when I try peeling barcode stickers off so carefully and it shreds halfway. It breaks my spirit."

What makes you excited about Aether and Iron?

"I absolutely love the concept for Aether and Iron. It is steampunk themed and also a strategy based game, which is one of my favorite genres. I've poured hours into the entire Fire Emblem franchise so it has been an extremely fun and fulfilling opportunity to design characters for this game."
